Our great friends at McKinney Animal Control requested our assistance after Wolfie proved to be extremely elusive and consistently avoided their capture. On their first day on site, they attempted a hand capture, and when that was unsuccessful, a standard live trap was deployed, which he would not enter.
With a winter storm approaching and frigid temperatures expected, our team agreed to deploy immediately on his case. We were able to capture him in just a couple of hours. See the timeline below for all of the details, pictures and video.
When our team arrived on site, Wolfie was huddled in a pile of leaves against the school building. We intentionally did not engage him and instead allowed him to remain calm and undisturbed while we assessed the scene and while we deployed our corral nearby.
We met with Slaughter Elementary principal Cyndy, after hours, who was exceptionally professional, accommodating, and supportive from the moment we arrived. She granted our team full access to the school property and trusted us to operate under our tried and true protocols. It was very clear that Cyndy and her staff genuinely cared about Wolfie and wanted nothing more than for him to be brought to safety. Their compassion, cooperation, and respect for the process played a meaningful role in the quick and successful outcome of this case.

We deployed the corral in a 5 x 10 configuration about 30 yards from where Wolfie was curled up in the leaves. ~~ We trailed liquid smoke and small pieces of chicken from inside the corral to about 10 yards from his location. Then our team staged inside the truck waiting about 30 yards away. Good Samaritan Amanda came out to assist!

Following capture, Wolfie was secured and transported to one of our team member’s homes for the evening to rest and decompress. Tomorrow (Friday), Wolfie will be transported to Collin County Animal Services for a legal stray hold. If Wolfie is not claimed by an owner during the five day stray hold period, we will be working with our rescue partners to pull him from the shelter at the conclusion of the hold and place him into foster care. Wolfie should also be available for adoption directly through Collin County Animal Services once his stray hold is complete.

❤️ We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Good Samaritans Amanda, Janelle, Kristie, and several others whose names we have not yet received, for keeping eyes on Wolfie, keeping him fed, and assisting throughout this case. Community involvement like this truly saves lives.

In addition to getting a bath, we gave him a dewormer and did a full head to paw assessment. His little joints were sore from being on the run and his nail quiks were super long, but he had no visible or obvious injuries. His body score was excellent and he was well nourished. His teeth had no visible tartar and he seemed very young.

Once Wolfie feels safe, his love for people shines through. He is a total lovebug Velcro pup who snuggled close all night long. It’s clear he is missing someone. His elusiveness appears to have come from fear and trauma, likely from becoming lost or being abandoned.

Wolfie was transported this morning to Collin County Animal Services, where he begins his mandatory five day stray hold. Hopefully he has a family searching for him.
We are networking with our rescue partners for placement after his stray hold. If you are interested in fostering Wolfie please let us know.

We are deeply grateful for our long-standing partnership with I Am Dog Rescue. They often step up to intake dogs we capture once their stray hold at the shelter is complete, placing them into experienced foster homes and helping them move toward loving forever families. Their leadership, consistency, compassion, and follow-through make a life saving difference.
We were also honored to donate $500 to I Am Dog Rescue to help cover Alfie’s neuter surgery and additional care.
Please take a moment to share their post, give them some love, and help celebrate this sweet boy’s fresh start. 🐶
