CASE TIMELINE

CASE TIMELINE

On April 2, 2024 Ginger‘s family took her on a shopping outing where she accidentally escaped from a shopping cart in the parking lot.  Ginger had only been adopted 10 days prior to her escape and she had just gotten her staples out from her spay surgery.  After jumping out of the cart, she ran like the dickens through the parking lot and she crossed the dangerous 6 lane Hwy 380 as her new mom watched in horror.

On April 5th, Ginger’s family reached out to us via email after someone on social media recommended they contact our team for search and capture assistance.

Tragically we were unable to accept Ginger‘s case right away because we were working another capture case in Farmersville.  In the meantime we provided Ginger‘s family with step-by-step guidance on exactly what to do. We advised for them to print and hand out a flyer that we made for them to all of the homes and businesses in the immediate area to try and get sightings, and to set up a feeding station with food and familiar bedding items.  They followed our instructions precisely!  Sadly, Ginger never visited their feeding station.

On the early morning of April 7th, after pulling an all nighter on the Farmersville capture, we decided to deploy our team on Ginger’s case before going home to sleep.  We utilized recent sightings intel to try and narrow down her location and lure her to a feeding station.  We were granted unlimited exterior access to the Raytheon property as Raytheon is right across the street from where Ginger escaped.

04/07/2024 07:30 ~ Team Arrival / Greeted by Resident Coyotes

Our team arrived to Raytheon Technologies, which is the last known sighting location from yesterday, and we were immediately greeted by thriving resident Coyotes as we entered through the security checkpoint.  This creates a great sense of urgency for our team because Ginger is definitely prey due to her size.  We watched the coyotes hunting and chasing rabbits.

We plan to work diligently and swiftly to bring her to safety.  Every minute she is out there she will struggle to survive in this environment.

04/07/2024 07:30 ~ Team Arrival / Greeted by Resident Coyotes

We surveyed the area for about an hour and we found the perfect isolated location to deploy our video monitored feeding station and trap. We put a little bit of food outside of the trap just in case she decides she’s too afraid to go inside right now. This would give her a chance to eat a small meal and would establish a reliable food source to where she will continue to return to this location in preparation for capture.

Team member Ginny did a 325 yard liquid smoke scent trail through the bluebonnet field to lead her to the feeding station.

04/07/2024 20:03 ~ Locked Trap Closed for the Night

Ginger has not yet shown up to the feeding station.  We do not want to capture any wildlife overnight, so we locked the trap in the closed position and put out fresh food for Ginger in hopes that she will find the station overnight.

04/07/2024 20:03 ~ Locked Trap Closed for the Night

Ginger did not visit the feeding station overnight but we arrived just after sunrise and put in fresh food.  Wet canned dog food with bacon and eggs on top.

04/08/2024 09:23 ~ YAY! Ginger Found the Feeding Station!

Ginger found our scent trail that led her straight to our feeding station!

04/08/2024 13:21 ~ Trap Set

The Eclipse has officially started and we are only moments away from Totality.  These events can alter canine and animal behavior but we are hopeful that she is still very close to the feeding station now that she ate a few hours ago.  We are deploying the drone to see if we can locate her in the bluebonnet fields near the feeding station.

Reunited with Family

Ginger was very shut down with our team post capture but as soon as her family member arrived on scene she perked up instantly, started crying and whimpering with excitement, and even wagged her tail.  This is so amazing since her new family only adopted her ten days prior to her escaping.  🥰

04/09/2024 UPDATE!

Mom says: “She's been crying today for me to carry her. I didn't get much work done because she wants to stay in my lap and I can't say no after what she has been through” ♥️

Mom explained that Ginger wasn’t yet cuddly or clingy before she escaped but after her traumatic experience of survival among predators, she is relieved to be home and loving the cuddles.

Please help us help more dogs like her!
