CAPTURED: 04/25/2026 06:27
🥾 Boots on the ground time: 9 hours
For more than three and a half months, this stray female Keeshond/Shepherd mix survived the dangerous conditions of a landfill, navigating heavy equipment, semis, and constant vehicle traffic just to stay alive. In recent weeks, her behavior escalated to chasing vehicles, creating an immediate and critical safety risk. There had already been multiple close calls.
Animal Control had been involved and made several attempts to capture her, including setting traps, but she would not enter. Despite ongoing efforts from multiple people, she remained on the run.
Our team stepped in on April 22, 2026 and established a coordinated plan. With full support and access granted by landfill manager Jerry, we were able to safely deploy our equipment and begin conditioning.
Within two hours of corral deployment, she entered without hesitation and began eating. That immediate, confident behavior allowed us to move forward quickly.
She was successfully captured on April 25, 2026 at 06:27 without incident.
This outcome would not have been possible without the people who never gave up on her. We are especially grateful to Jerry, Blair, Tiffany, Kyle, Jim, Linda, Robert, Shannon, and everyone else who played a role in keeping eyes on her and helping along the way. She was never alone out there. 💚

We deployed a video-monitored feeding station in a fairly secluded area to begin drawing him away from the roadway. This is a critical first step in conditioning him to a consistent food source and establishing a safe location in preparation for our corral deployment and capture.
He quickly located the new feeding station. He didn’t eat all of the food, which isn’t surprising, as so many people have been feeding him that he likely isn’t very hungry. We anticipate he will return later tonight to finish what’s left. The feeding station will be replenished first thing tomorrow morning.
At this point, the plan is to continue feeding tomorrow and then deploy the corral trap on Friday, securing it in the open position. If he enters the corral on Friday, we plan to move forward with capture during him feeding window on Saturday morning.
He cleaned his bowl this time!!! 😃

We deployed the corral today and secured the door in the open position.
Due to team obligations this afternoon, there is not enough time to safely move forward with capture and allow him proper decompression time inside the corral before we would need to leave the site. It is in his best interest to wait until tomorrow.
We will use today to allow him to build confidence around the corral and begin entering on his own so that no extended conditioning period will be needed.
Today, we baited the trap with nutritious wet dog food and plain chicken, topped with delicious beef brisket that he cannot resist.
Just two hours after corral deployment, he walked right in without hesitation and began eating.
That is exactly the kind of immediate, confident behavior we look for and it puts us in a strong position. We are planning his capture tomorrow.

This sweet Keeshond/Shepherd mix was safely loaded into the transport vehicle and transported to Collin County Animal Services for the required five day stray hold.
If he is not reclaimed by a family searching for him, our team will be working closely with our partner rescues to secure rescue placement and a foster home immediately following the completion of his stray hold.
Please continue to follow his case page here for future updates.

Following the completion of the five day stray hold, Collin County Animal Services legally terminated any prior ownership rights and officially transferred ownership to our amazing friends at I Am Dog Rescue.
MMESAR team members Selena and Ginny are transporting him from Collin County Animal Services to his I Am Dog Rescue foster home.
We made a $500 donation to I Am Dog Rescue to help support his medical and rehabilitation expenses.

We arrived at his foster home, and it immediately felt right.
His name is now “Sammy”!
His foster family was so happy to see him again, welcoming him in with a quiet kind of excitement. There was a calm, steady energy in the home that set the tone right away. No pressure. No expectations. Just patience, kindness, and love.
They are highly experienced and understand exactly what a dog like him needs. They know how easily he can slip back into flight mode, and they understand that trust will take time. They are prepared to give him the structure, consistency, and long term decompression and rehabilitation he deserves.
It felt like everything had finally come together for him. He was right where he was meant to be. 💚
➡️ More Updates Coming Soon!

We donated an additional $500 donation to I Am Dog Rescue to help with the additional costs of heartworm treatment and his focused neuter surgery.
