Microchipped, OWNER FOUND! Missing 7 months, only 1/4 mile from lost location.
So many turned a blind eye… for MONTHS. Until one day a Good Samaritan named Calvin who works at a commercial construction site near the Dallas North Tollway, Legacy, and Avon Rd., began seeing this elusive girl around his job site two weeks ago. He tried capturing her multiple times but never could get close. The site is a massive 5 story apartment community development and she began hiding among building materials on the second floor. Calvin’s mom Lori posted photos of her on Facebook and we got tagged several times so we decided to help.
We immediately contacted the site superintendent to ask if we could setup a feeding station and video camera somewhere on the site but regrettably our request was denied. We decided that instead we would deploy a feeding station immediately outside of the site perimeter and make a 140 yard liquid smoke scent trail all the way to the building she was in to try and lure her to the station.
We deployed a video monitored feeding station immediately outside of the construction site perimeter and trailed liquid smoke all the way to the building she was in.
Because we are already working another case in Anna, TX our initial plan is to get her eating at the feeding station and then our amazing friends at Duck Team 6 will take over this case this weekend.
She did not show up at the feeding station overnight. They were pouring concrete early this morning near the feeding station so it’s possible she was avoiding the area they were working near. ~~ It’s also very possible she is still INSIDE the apartment building and isn’t coming out. Thats not good for us simply because we need for her to come outside of the construction site perimeter in order for us to condition her for capture inside of our corral trap.
We are going to visit the site in person today, assess the situation and try and locate her.
We received a call from Calvin at the construction site that she was still INSIDE the building today. We deployed to the site. The section of apartment units she was hiding in didn’t have walls, it was only framed, so she could walk through sections very quickly, unit to unit. She was EXTREMELY elusive and we couldn’t get close at all without her running. She was even petrified of the cheeseburger pieces we were throwing her direction. We were certain she was going to need to be corral trapped, but how? They weren’t granting us access to setup our equipment on site and she wasn’t leaving the second floor of the building.
By some miracle, we pushed her to a unit at the end of the hallway that had all of its walls installed. It was the ONLY UNIT with walls. Team member Ginny blocked the main entrance door to that unit so we only had that one apartment to work in. She absolutely had a way out but it was a 2-story drop, off of an unfinished balcony. We had to be extremely careful not to spook her to that side of the unit in fear she may jump out of fear. ♥️ It took us a few hours but we were able to hand capture her by crawling inch by inch to her with slow and careful precision. 🐾 Capture video will be posted soon!
Her name is “Jasmine”! She is wearing a rabies tag and she has a registered microchip. When we spoke to her mom Rebecca on the phone, she was audibly crying joyful tears. Jasmine has been missing for SEVEN MONTHS! Rebecca also said her golden retriever sister will be so excited to see her too!
Rebecca asked if our team could keep Jasmine until tomorrow evening because she has to work and can’t take off. Absolutely we will! We are honored. She will stay at team member Selena’s house and team member Ginny will stay the night with her in the guest room.
For 7 months she stayed VERY CLOSE to where she escaped. They almost never go far but they hide extremely well.
Selena and Ginny gave Jasmine a bath and gave her dewormer medication, flea/tick preventative and a heartworm preventative medication. Now she is up on the bed resting. She just wants to be close now that she is in captivity. She is absolutely PRECIOUS! 🩷
Jasmine slept like a baby all night long. She started off in her kennel with the door open but then she decided she wanted to be close to Ginny so she jumped onto the bed and slept. She is so much more relaxed and continuing to decompress.
She has not eaten or drank since capture yesterday but we feel like she will this morning. If she doesn’t we will take her to our medical team for an assessment.
She has been drinking plenty of water this morning but she isn't yet interested in eating, not even rotisserie chicken. As she continues to decompress, she should gain her appetite back. We are just thrilled that she’s drinking water water so that she can stay hydrated.
‼️We are watching Jasmine closely today. Two times now that she went outside to potty, she began foaming at the mouth and clinching her teeth. It’s very hard to tell if it’s actual seizure activity because she is not convulsing. If it happens again we will take her to the ER immediately. She is petrified to go outside so this could be triggered by a fear response.
Jasmine’s mom is taking her to her veterinarian tomorrow for bloodwork and a 40Dx test to check for heartworms and tick born diseases. She was on preventative medication’s before she escaped, but seven months is too long to go without preventatives.
Precious Jasmine was reunited with her mom, Rebecca, and her sister Bella tonight. We will be posting the reunion video very soon.
Jasmine saw her veterinarian this morning and she is doing great. They took blood work and the results should be back on Tuesday. ♥️
