⚠️NOT DANGEROUS… He is just
scared and in flight mode. He will RUN if approached.
A Good Samaritan posted photos of this dog on Facebook and we got tagged several times. Others commented that they have also been seeing him in the center median of Highway 75 for the past two weeks. He was recently seen eating a deceased deer next to the highway.
We are still working Oliver’s case in McKinney but due to the dangerous situation for this dog and vehicle occupants we wanted to setup a feeding station urgently to lure him away from the roadway and give him a reliable food source away from the roadway in preparation for capture.
Below is his case timeline. Be sure to check back here for case updates.
Our team is heading to the area to survey and to deploy a video monitored feeding station.
Our team has been on site surveying for the past six hours and thankfully we were able to locate the dog. We set up video monitored feeding stations and we did a 300 yard liquid smoked trail to lure him to exactly where we want him to be. We are hopeful that he will visits one of the feeding stations within the next few hours. Stay tuned.
A very special Thank You to Mark and Antonio for giving our team access to your property and to Abbey for assisting with replenishing the feeding stations.
It’s a boy! This sweet boy finally visited the feeding station this morning. We are preparing our capture plan.
He did not show up to the feeding station at all yesterday after his early morning breakfast or overnight last night. It is very strange behavior for a stray dog… unless someone else is feeding him. Typically once they find a delicious food source such as ours, they almost camp out at the station waiting for more and they don't go far. The torrential rain yesterday afternoon and overnight could have had something to do with it too. It is also possible that he has a home nearby and he is neglectfully and illegally allowed to free roam. If they aren't feeding him well, he will roam and search for food. There's no way to know but regardless he needs to be captured for his safety and for public traffic safety.
We are looking for his patterns of travel, favorite locations, and schedule behavior so that we can meet his demands and condition him for capture.
Hopefully he shows up today now that the rain is gone.
Once we can get him eating consistently at the station then we will deploy our corral trap for capture and announce a staging date/time. It is important that we establish his feeding station schedule so that we can minimize our capture staging period since we are also working Oliver’s case in McKinney.
It is extremely rare for them to show up at our feeding station and eat one time and never come back unless someone else is feeding him. It has now been 48 hours since he first showed up to our feeding station and no one has seen him since. We are very concerned and we will have boots on the ground searching today. There’s no way to know his history, but if he was dumped, he would naturally go back to Highway 75 regardless of our feeding station because they always go back looking for their family.
Our team searched for hours today but we were unable to locate him. We can at least confirm that he is not deceased on Hwy 75. We found two deceased deer and a deceased coyote between White St and Mantua but he was nowhere to be found. Hopefully he circles back around to our feeding station soon.
We are replenishing the station with fresh food daily!
He has literally disappeared. He STILL has not shown back up to the feeding station after eating once several days ago and nobody in the area has seen him.
He still hasn’t shown up to our feeding station since that very first morning he ate. One week ago someone sent us this Nextdoor post with a possible sighting of him but the poster and the respondent in the comments have been completely unresponsive to our inquiries. If others are feeding him like the person in the comments mentioned then that would explain why he disappeared from our feeding station. Hopefully these people respond soon so that we can locate him and get this baby off of the streets!
For now, we demobilized our feeding station until we can locate him and we will then redeploy the station and video camera in his new location.
