This boy has been surviving on scraps at a construction site for almost 3 months. A local construction worker and Good Samaritan named Yelis was very concerned about him and made a call to action. Collin County Animal Services has been unable to capture him so our team has accepted the case. We will be putting boots on the ground today to survey the area, gain property access, and deploy a video monitored feeding station.
Below is his case timeline where we will publish updates in real time!
Our team put boots on the ground tonight only to discover that this sweet boy has a home nearby. His name is “Oso”. His family and a neighbor saw our post on Facebook and his family reached out to us while we were on site. Oso’s family is very nice and they allowed for our team to visit their home and we saw for ourselves the multiple places he has been digging out. He lives outside 24/7 by himself and he is not neutered. He was VERY friendly to our team and begging for love and affection. Once he escapes outside of his yard he is very leery of strangers.
We explained to the family that they must find a way to keep him contained under county ordinance. We educated that neutering him may also help him to not escape in addition to neutering reduces his chances of getting cancer by 92%. We provided several low cost veterinary options for neuter surgery, annual vaccines & heartworm/flea/tick prevention medication and they confirmed that Oso was recently vaccinated. We also explained that Oso is likely lonely and bored which often leads to them escaping.
Oso has access to food, water, and a concrete patio with a roof. He probably likes the cold too. He does not have a dog house but we counseled the family about his need for appropriate shelter such as an insulated dog house or bringing him inside into a crate in the evenings and during inclement weather. The family explained that he sheds too much for indoors and that’s why he lives outside.
They have been sealing up holes for months but he keeps digging new ones. The family explained that if they can’t keep him contained moving forward they will be rehoming him. We asked them to please contact us in that situation so that we can help!
His family is very nice and Oso seemed to love them a lot… it’s just a different living situation for him than many pet parents provide and we understand how hard that is for most of you to see him living outdoors. Please know that we will remain a valuable resource for Oso and his family and we will continue to help in any way we can!
Thank you for loving him and looking out for him like we do!
As always, our case report has been emailed to Collin County Animal Services for their records.
